Loveland concert band
logo and Sub-Brand

Overview
The Loveland Concert Band has been making music in Northern Colorado since 1976. For their 50th anniversary season, I refreshed the everyday logo and built a dedicated anniversary mark, then delivered the whole system as organized, ready-to-use files on a brand site the band can run themselves.
The result is two complementary logos, an evergreen mark they will use for years and a golden 50th anniversary version for the milestone season, each built to look sharp everywhere from an embroidered polo to a newspaper ad.

The Challenge
The band's logo had to do two jobs at once. The 50th anniversary was a real point of pride and deserved to be marked, but the everyday logo also needed to feel current, and the band needed usable files to show up consistently everywhere they appear.
Loveland Concert Band is a volunteer community organization, so whatever I delivered had to be easy for board members and directors to grab and use on their own, across posters, programs, social media, merchandise, signage, embroidery, and email, without a designer in the loop. They also loved the simplicity of their existing mark, the music staff and the mountain terrain within it, so the refresh had to honor what was already working rather than start from scratch.
The Goal
Celebrate the 50th anniversary with its own mark while modernizing the logo the band will use for years to come, and hand them a flexible, well-organized file library so the brand looks consistent across every medium.
Just as important, the system had to outlast the milestone. The anniversary badge needed to come off cleanly so the everyday logo keeps working long after the golden season ends.
The Approach
I built two complementary logos from one foundation: an evergreen mark for the long haul and a golden 50th anniversary version for the milestone season, so the band could celebrate now and keep the identity afterward.
The design is rooted in what makes the band theirs. The peaks are the Loveland mountains, drawn from the view across Lake Loveland, and they double as the top lines of a music staff, keeping the staff the band already loved. I kept the type bold, clean, and easy to read, with no serifs or flourishes so it holds up in embroidery and at small sizes, and I deliberately left out any single instrument so the mark represents every musician in the group.
For color, I leaned on the red the band already wears, added gold for the golden anniversary, and kept black and white in the system, so the logo pops on their red shirts and reads cleanly anywhere. Every variation was delivered in multiple colors and file types and organized on a brand site, so the band can self-serve the right file for any use.
The Results
The band came away with two complementary logo systems, each with three variations, delivered in a range of colors and file types and organized on a brand site with mockups, font files, and usage guidance. The everyday mark is ready for years of use, and the golden version carries the 50th anniversary season.
The client was thrilled. They called it "this beautiful design" and were excited to share it with the full band. The new identity is rolling out across the anniversary season, from merchandise and signage to print and social.
My Role
I led the project end to end as the graphic designer: shaping the direction from the band's questionnaire and board feedback, designing both logo systems and their variations, and delivering the final files and brand site. I ran it in two phases, starting with five black-and-white concepts to find the right direction, then refining to a polished set the board could choose from, so the band stayed in the driver's seat the whole way.
The design system
Two logos, one family:
- The everyday mark. The refreshed primary logo in red, with "Making music since 1976," plus a full wordmark and a simplified LCB icon.
- The 50th anniversary mark. A golden version built on the same foundation, with a "50 Years" badge that can be removed cleanly for post-anniversary use.
Each logo was finalized in three variations, primary, wordmark, and icon, in multiple brand colors and file types for print, web, merchandise, signage, and embroidery. Everything lives on a brand site with an overview of the identity, mockups, font files, and guidance on which file to use where, so the band can manage it all without a full-time designer.
"Dylan listened to our needs and then designed two complementary logos for our anniversary year and for years to come. We appreciated the grab and go files that make using these easy."
